The function of the General Purposes Committee is to support the OCIMF vision and work to improve safety and environmental issues relating to the safe operation of tankers and prevention of pollution of the marine environment.
Membership is sought from senior representatives of OCIMF members who have expertise in the technical operation of ships.
Reporting to the GPC are three Sub-Committees, which discuss various issues, relating to the technical operation of ships and the SIRE Focus Group. These Sub-Committees pass their recommendations to the GPC and task forces or work groups may be set up to develop guidelines on specific issues identified by the Sub-Committees.
The General Purposes Committee meets twice a year with meetings held in various locations world-wide.
