Sam is a mariner with over 25-year experience in the maritime industry, which includes a 14-year seagoing career on tankers, offshore vessels, container vessels, dredgers, and dry cargo vessels. Sam was QHSE Advisor for Viking Offshore Limited, with a fleet of over 35 offshore vessels. Sam joined BP in 2004 sailing on its product tankers.
Since 2007, he has undertaken several shore based roles in BP Shipping, including ports and terminals assurance superintendent, vetting and clearance superintendent, regional voyage operations manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, and most recently strategy, risk and compliance manager accountable for developing BP Shipping’s business strategy, risk and information management processes, and ethics and compliance programme.
Prior to 2017, Sam was also accountable for the management of regulatory compliance, external advocacy, and environmental and social responsibility for BP Shipping. Sam has also been Chairman of the of Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) over the last two years. MACN is a global business network of about 90 organisations, including oil majors, shipping companies and industry NGOs, working collectively to improve compliance standards and tackle corruption in the maritime industry.
