OCIMF is a voluntary association of oil companies with an interest in the shipment and terminalling of crude oil, oil products, petrochemicals and gas.
About OCIMF
OCIMF exists to bring the maritime energy industry together around a shared commitment to safety. It was formed in 1970 following incidents, including Torrey Canyon in 1967, to address the need to better understand and manage maritime risk.
For over fifty years OCIMF has helped reduce risk by convening expertise, building trust and translating operational experience into practical guidance. Today, OCIMF has more than 110 member companies and holds consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
OCIMF works to prevent harm to people and the environment by supporting consistent, evidence-led practice across vessels, terminals and offshore interfaces. We keep a clear focus on today’s hazards while maintaining a steady watch on the horizon for emerging risks and future threats as the energy landscape evolves. OCIMF provides an independent, member-led forum that unites people to drive maritime safety in the energy sector. Supporting its members and stakeholders to reach consensus, develop guidance and programmes for real-world use, and where appropriate, speak with a unified voice grounded in evidence and operational experience.
Alongside its extensive guidance and tools, OCIMF also produces inspection and assurance programmes to support safer operations worldwide.
