Welcome to OCIMF

OCIMF is a membership organisation that brings the maritime energy industry together around a shared commitment to safety. It was formed in 1970 following incidents, including Torrey Canyon in 1967, to address the need to better understand and manage maritime risk.

For over five decades, we have built a shared understanding of safe practice across traditional and emerging energy activities. Today, we have over 100 member companies and hold consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

We promote the safe and environmentally responsible transportation and handling of oil, petrochemicals, gas and emerging fuels, and expect the same standard in related offshore marine operations. We work with our members and industry partners to manage today’s operational hazards while helping industry prepare for emerging risks and future threats.

Our vision is: A global marine industry that causes no harm to people or the environment. We’re working towards that by listening, learning and working collaboratively with our membership and industry partners to produce best practice guidance that has a real-world impact.

OCIMF is united in purpose to drive maritime safety in the energy sector. In practical terms, this means that as risks evolve, OCIMF will continue to provide its members and industry partners with a trusted forum for shared learning — bringing expertise together early to explore emerging issues and support safe adaptation over time.

We are an independent, membership organisation that takes a consensus-based approach to deliver safe practice guidance and tools to support safer operations worldwide.
