Additional documentation and training materials

SIRE 2.0 has been developed by OCIMF’s Vessel Inspection Project (VIP) team and has been undergoing extensive testing in preparation for the phased roll-out of the programme.

Additional documentation has now been published and must be reviewed by all programme users to ensure full familiarisation and readiness for the transition to SIRE 2.0. The documentation is available from the OCIMF website, here. The latest documents are highlighted in bold in the table below, which gives an overview of all the documentation needed to support the programme. This includes full details of the phased roll-out process (‘SIRE 2.0 Phased Transition Guidance’).

Technical training videos  

OCIMF has produced a suite of additional technical training videos to provide ongoing support for inspectors, officers, crew, vetters and operators during the transition to SIRE 2.0. The short videos, available here, complement the video series on human factors here, and provide an easy-to-understand overview of key aspects of the inspection process.

The videos are aimed at vetters in OCIMF member organisations and staff based in operators’ offices ashore, however, to get a full picture, all stakeholders should view them. The videos can also be downloaded and circulated to ships for viewing by staff or integrated into in-house training programmes.

Suggestions For Improvement portal

To make sure all feedback is easily captured within the SIRE 2.0 programme, a Suggestions For Improvement portal (SFI) has been developed. This provides a process for all participants to report feedback and suggestions about the use of the programme for OCIMF’s review. It can be accessed using your active SIRE user account.

Full instructions are provided in the document titled ‘SIRE 2.0 Instructions for entering data into the Suggestions for Improvement portal Version 1.0’ listed in the table above.

Programme recipients, submitting companies, vessel operators and inspectors are all encouraged to use the portal to provide constructive feedback on all aspects of the programme, particularly once engaged in the phased roll-out. Readiness for roll-out

OCIMF recognises that moving from SIRE to SIRE 2.0 is a significant change for all parties involved in the programme and the roll-out of the new inspection regime must reflect the readiness of the programme, as well as all programme participants.

The phased approach provides the opportunity for all industry sectors to become fully familiar with the SIRE 2.0 guidance materials, training materials and inspection process. The roll-out strategy is underpinned by a comprehensive plan of phase-specific critical success factors which need to be met before moving to the next phase.

All users of the SIRE programme are expected to use the SIRE 2.0 documentation, training resources, familiarisation materials and additional information published by OCIMF and available at https://www.ocimf.org/programmes/sire-2-0 to ensure their readiness for the phased transition.
